    Investigating Gaze of Children with ASD in Naturalistic Settings.

    BACKGROUND: Visual behavior is known to be atypical in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Monitor-based eye-tracking studies have measured several of these atypicalities in individuals with Autism. While atypical behaviors are known to be accentuated during natural interactions, few studies have been made on gaze behavior in natural interactions. In this study we focused on i) whether the findings done in laboratory settings are also visible in a naturalistic interaction; ii) whether new atypical elements appear when studying visual behavior across the whole field of view. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Ten children with ASD and ten typically developing children participated in a dyadic interaction with an experimenter administering items from the Early Social Communication Scale (ESCS). The children wore a novel head-mounted eye-tracker, measuring gaze direction and presence of faces across the child's field of view. The analysis of gaze episodes to faces revealed that children with ASD looked significantly less and for shorter lapses of time at the experimenter. The analysis of gaze patterns across the child's field of view revealed that children with ASD looked downwards and made more extensive use of their lateral field of view when exploring the environment. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: The data gathered in naturalistic settings confirm findings previously obtained only in monitor-based studies. Moreover, the study allowed to observe a generalized strategy of lateral gaze in children with ASD when they were looking at the objects in their environment

    Positive Least Energy Solutions and Phase Separation for Coupled Schrodinger Equations with Critical Exponent: Higher Dimensional Case

When \bb=0, this is just the well-known Brezis-Nirenberg problem. The special case N=4 was studied by the authors in (Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 205: 515-551, 2012). In this paper we consider {\it the higher dimensional case N≄5N\ge 5}. It is interesting that we can prove the existence of a positive least energy solution (u_\bb, v_\bb) {\it for any ÎČ≠0\beta\neq 0} (which can not hold in the special case N=4). We also study the limit behavior of (u_\bb, v_\bb) as ÎČ→−∞\beta\to -\infty and phase separation is expected. In particular, u_\bb-v_\bb will converge to {\it sign-changing solutions} of the Brezis-Nirenberg problem, provided N≄6N\ge 6. In case \la_1=\la_2, the classification of the least energy solutions is also studied. It turns out that some quite different phenomena appear comparing to the special case N=4.Comment: 48 pages.     Twisting D(2,1; α) Superspace

    We develop a three-dimensional N=4 theory of rigid supersymmetry describing the dynamics of a set of hypermultiplets (?I alpha alpha 'alpha?',phi I alpha A) on a curved AdS(3) worldvolume background, whose supersymmetry is captured by the supergroup D2(2,1;alpha). To unveil some remarkable features of this model, we perform two twists, involving the SL(2,R) factors of the theory. After the first twist, our spacetime Lagrangian exhibits a Chern-Simons term associated with an odd one-form field, together with a fermionic "gauge-fixing", in the spirit of the Rozansky-Witten model. The second twist allows to interpret the D2(2,1;alpha) setup as a framework capable of describing massive Dirac particles. In particular, this yields a generalisation of the Alvarez-Valenzuela-Zanelli model of "unconventional supersymmetry". We comment on specific values of the combination alpha+1, which in our model is related to a sort of gauging in the absence of dynamical gauge fields

    Calibration-Free Eye Gaze Direction Detection with Gaussian Processes

    In this paper we present a solution for eye gaze detection from a wireless head mounted camera designed for children aged between 6 months and 18 months. Due to the constraints of working with very young children, the system does not seek to be as accurate as other state-of-the-art eye trackers, however it requires no calibration process from the wearer. Gaussian Process Regression and Support Vector Machines are used to analyse the raw pixel data from the video input and return an estimate of the child's gaze direction. A confidence map is used to determine the accuracy the system can expect for each coordinate on the image. The best accuracy so far obtained by the system is 2.34circ^{circ} on adult subjects, tests with children remain to be done

    N\mathcal{N}-Extended D=4D=4 Supergravity, Unconventional SUSY and Graphene

    We derive a 2+12+1 dimensional model with unconventional supersymmetry at the boundary of an AdS4{\rm AdS}_4 N\mathcal{N}-extended supergravity, generalizing previous results. The (unconventional) extended supersymmetry of the boundary model is instrumental in describing, within a top-down approach, the electronic properties of graphene-like 2D materials at the two Dirac points, K{\bf K} and Kâ€Č{\bf K}'. The two valleys correspond to the two independent sectors of the OSp(p∣2)×OSp(q∣2){\rm OSp}(p|2)\times {\rm OSp}(q|2) boundary model in the p=qp=q case, which are related by a parity transformation. The Semenoff and Haldane-type masses entering the corresponding Dirac equations are identified with the torsion parameters of the substrate in the model.Comment: 27 pages, 1 figur

    Identification of Value Proposition and Development of Innovative Business Models for Demand Response Products and Services Enabled by the DR-BOB Solution

    The work presented is the result of an ongoing European H2020 project entitled DR-BOB Demand Response in Blocks of Buildings (DR-BOB) that seeks to integrate existing technologies to create a scalable solution for Demand Response (DR) in blocks of buildings. In most EU countries, DR programs are currently limited to the industrial sector and to direct asset control. The DR-BOB solution extends applicability to the building sector, providing predictive building management in blocks of buildings, enabling facilities managers to respond to implicit and explicit DR schemes, and enabling the aggregation of the DR potential of many blocks of buildings for use in demand response markets. The solution consists of three main components: the Local Energy Manager (LEM), which adds intelligence and provides the capacity for predictive building management in blocks of buildings, a Consumer Portal (CP) to enable building managers and building occupants to interact with the system and be engaged in demand response operations, and a Decentralized Energy Management System (DEMSÂź, Siemens plc, Nottingham, England, UK), which enables the aggregation of the DR potential of many blocks of buildings, thus allowing participation in incentive-based demand response with or without an aggregator. The paper reports the key results around Business Modelling development for demand response products and services enabled by the DR-BOB solution. The scope is threefold: (1) illustrate how the functionality of the demand response solution can provide value proposition to underpin its exploitation by four specific customer segments, namely aggregators and three types of Owners of Blocks of Buildings in different market conditions, (2) explore key aspects of the Business Model from the point of view of a demand response solution provider, in particular around most the suitable revenue stream and key partnership, and (3) assess the importance of key variables such as market maturity, user engagement, and type of blocks of buildings as drivers to market penetration and profitability. The work presented is framed by the expected evolution of DR services in different market contexts and the different relationships between the main stakeholders involved in the DR value chain in different EU countries. The analysis also relies on the results of interviews conducted at the fours pilot sites of the DR-BOB project with key representatives of the management, operations, and marketing. These are used to better understand customer needs and sharpen the value proposition

    N = 2 AdS4 supergravity, holography and Ward identities

    We develop in detail the holographic framework for an N = 2 pure AdS supergravity model in four dimensions, including all the contributions from the fermionic fields and adopting the Fefferman-Graham parametrization. We work in the first order formalism, where the full superconformal structure can be kept manifest in principle, even if only a part of it is realized as a symmetry on the boundary, while the remainder has a non-linear realization. Our study generalizes the results presented in antecedent literature and includes a general discussion of the gauge-fixing conditions on the bulk fields which yield the asymptotic symmetries at the boundary. We construct the corresponding super- conformal currents and show that they satisfy the related Ward identities when the bulk equations of motion are imposed. Consistency of the holographic setup requires the super- AdS curvatures to vanish at the boundary. This determines, in particular, the expression of the super-Schouten tensor of the boundary theory, which generalizes the purely bosonic Schouten tensor of standard gravity by including gravitini bilinears. The same applies to the superpartner of the super-Schouten tensor, the conformino. Furthermore, the vanishing of the supertorsion poses general constraints on the sources of the three-dimensional boundary conformal field theory and requires that the super-Schouten tensor is endowed with an antisymmetric part proportional to a gravitino-squared term
